Dymo Printer Troubleshooting

by Bradly Adams

If your dymo printer stops working, try the following solutions

Error: "No printers detected. Make sure printer is connected and Dymo Connect is installed"

Error message showing dymo printer not detected

Check for the basics first:

  • Make sure your printer is plugged into your computer and powered on
  • Make sure Dymo Connect is installed on the computer you are trying to print from
  • Open Dymo Connect and make sure the printer on the bottom left shows as Online

Give your browser permission to connect to local network resources

Mac Users

Apparently Dymo Connect is not fully compatible with Mac. The Dymo Connect software works if just printing from Dymo Connect, but the mechanism that is required for the browser to send print jobs to Dymo Connect cannot circumvent the security of the Mac which prevents the job from printing. At this time, Dymo has not provided a solution or an update with a fix. Trying installing on a Windows computer.

Chrome Users

You may see a pop up that says "app.ordertracinventory.com wants to look for and connect to any device on your local network". Click Allow to allow access.

You can also access this setting by clicking the settings icon in the very left of the URL bar, then make sure Local network access permission is enabled. This permission is required to be enabled in order to print to local network printers:

Edge Users

Edge users may also see a pop up that says "app.ordertracinventory.com wants to look for and connect to any device on your local network":

You must click Allow, as the browser needs to be able to send a signal to the printer on your local network in order to print.

You can always access this setting by clicking the lock icon in the address bar, then set Local network access to Allowed:

Fix the Dymo Web API Service

If the error still shows when trying to print from OrderTrac, it is probably due to a known issue with Dymo Connect that causes the browser to not be able to communicate with the printer. This is a bug that has been submitted to Dymo but their support is not great, and they have not provided a fix for it.

There is a service that runs in the background of your computer that listens for print jobs from your browser and sends it to Dymo Connect to print. Sometimes if this service is broken or stopped, the browser cannot communicate with the printer.

In order to test if this is the problem, enter the following url in the url bar of your browser and click Enter:
https://127.0.0.1:41951/DYMO/DLS/Printing/GetPrinters

If the browser is not able to connect to Dymo Connect, you will see the following error "This site can't be reached":

To resolve this issue, try the following steps to restart the Dymo Web API service:

1. In your taskbar, click the arrow icon to show all the hidden icons, then right click the Dymo icon, and click Exit: (If you do not see the Dymo icon, continue to the next step)

      image 12

      2. Next, go to the following location in the File Explorer (C:\Program Files (x86)\DYMO\DYMO Connect) and double click the DYMO.WebApi.Win.Host.exe file:

      image 13

        3. Now try the https://127.0.0.1:41951/DYMO/DLS/Printing/GetPrinters link again to see if the printers are listed. If so, you can refresh the page in OrderTrac and try printing again, that printer should be recognized now.

If your printer still is not recognized in the browser, try the following:

        • Restart your computer. Sometimes a restart gets Dymo background services back on track.
          • Check to see if you printer is working now. If not, continue on
        • In Dymo Connect, click the Help menu on the top and click Check for Updates
          • If an update is found, install the update. NOTE: Before installing the update, unplug the Dymo Printer from your computer.
          • After the update has installed, restart your computer
          • Plug the printer back in
        • If there is no update available, uninstall Dymo Connect from your computer completely
          • Important! Before installing the Dymo Connect again, unplug the Dymo Printer from your computer.
          • Download and install the latest version of Dymo Connect
          • After the install is complete, restart your computer
          • Plug the printer back in

Check if the service is running and able to communicate with the browser

Open Dymo Connect and make sure the printer shows as Online again. You should see it on the bottom left of the screen:

        image 2

Enter this URL in your browser again:
        https://127.0.0.1:41951/DYMO/DLS/Printing/GetPrinters

This time, you should see a list of installed printers:

        image 4

If you see this list text beginning with <Printers>....., the browser is now able to communicate with Dymo Connect and is able to see a list of installed printers.

Now you can return to OrderTrac, refresh the page, and try printing a label again.

        Other Errors

If you are able to see the printer, but error is displayed when trying to print, try the following:

        • Make sure LabelWriter Software v8 is NOT installed. Dymo Connect should be the ONLY Dymo installed on your computer. Having both versions could lead to conflicts.
